چکیده

We have examined 426 Voyager fields distributed across the sky for O VI (λλ 1032/1038Å) emission from the Galactic diffuse interstellar medium. No such emission was detected in any of our observed fields. Our most constraining limit was a 90% confidence upper limit of 2600 photons cm −2 sr −1 s −1 on the doublet emission in the direction (l, b) = (117. • 3, 50. • 6). Combining this with an absorption line measurement in nearly the same direction allows us to place an upper limit of 0.01 cm −3 on the electron density of the hot gas in this direction. We have placed 90% confidence upper limits of less than or equal to 10,000 photons cm −2 sr −1 s −1 on the O VI emission in 16 of our 426 observations.

We report 60 and 90 µm observations of 7 millisecond pulsars with ISO. The pulsar PSR B1257+12 is orbited by three planets, and other millisecond pulsars may be orbited by dust disks that represent planets that failed to form or their residue. We do not detect any infrared emission from the 7 pulsars in our sample, and typical upper limits are 100 mJy. Using a simple model, we constrain the typ...

XMM-Newton, with its high throughput and excellent spatial and spectral resolution, is an ideal instrument for spectro-imaging observations of clusters. Presented here is an XMM-Newton mosaic observation of A2163, from which a new radial temperature profile is derived. The issue of background subtraction is addressed in some detail as a proper treatment of the background is essential for the de...

We present a measurement of the microlensing optical depth toward the Galactic Bulge based on 4 years of OGLE-II survey. We consider only bright sources in the extended Red Clump Giant (RCG) region of the Color-Magnitude

FUSE observations were obtained in July 2003 during 1.2 cycles of the 0.76-day binary orbit of RX J0513.9−6951. Radial velocity measurements of the broad O VI emission profile show a semiamplitude of K∼26 km s −1 , which is much smaller than the value of 117 km s −1 measured from 2001 FUSE data. Narrow O VI emissions show no measurable velocity variation. The mean velocity of the broad O VI emi...
